When To Replace 3M Respirator Filter

How to know when its time to replace my 3M Respirator Filters?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.  We have the 3M recommendations for when to change your respirator filters and cartridges.

The service life (i.e. how long it will last) of any gas and vapor cartridge filter is affected by many factors, like concentration and identity of contaminants, breathing rates, the humidity, the ventilation, temperature and carbon exposure time.

3M Recommends Changing Respirator Filters When:

•  When the expiry date stamped on the sealed packet
has elapsed.
•  Once opened, maximum use time is 6 months (even if
not used). The carbon will absorb contaminants from
the general environment.
•  When contaminant can be detected by smell or taste.
•  Or in accordance with your established Filter
Change Schedule.

It is very important that you replace both respirator filters at the same time.

To maximize the cartridge life, when not being used, place the reusable respirator and filters in a sealable bag and stored in a clean dry place away from sunlight.
